5G Testbed Industry 4.0: Successful cooperation between BAYFU and Fraunhofer IIS for the industrial future.

With the manufacturer-independent 5G Testbed Industry 4.0, we offer companies, authorities and organizations new opportunities for testing and developing 5G-based innovations in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institut für Integrierte Schaltungen (IIS), which are constantly adapting to the requirements and possibilities of the digital transformation of industrial applications.

This recognition and cooperation with Fraunhofer underlines BAYFU's role as a neutral consultancy and the value of using testbeds as a central platform for the development and testing of innovative 5G solutions in industrial applications.

In the Industry 4.0 testbed, which is operated in Nuremberg's Nordostpark, companies, authorities and organizations can test and further develop their 5G applications under realistic conditions. Thanks to mobile variants such as the “nomadic 5G positioning testbed” and the “mobile 5G campus network”, which were presented at SPS (Smart Production Solution, trade fair in Nuremberg), the testbed offers flexible deployment options directly at the customer's premises - whether in production facilities, logistics centers or port areas.

The testbed is an attractive alternative to proof of concepts (PoC). Due to the possibility of being able to use the services flexibly, this can be very attractive from an economic and time perspective.

Particularly noteworthy is the focus on positioning, which also offers companies localization options. Technology comparisons with satellite-based systems such as WLAN or ultra-wideband (UWB) are also possible. Dr. Jochen Seitz, head of department at Fraunhofer IIS, emphasized the opportunity for companies to make well-founded investment decisions through comparative technology analyses.

At the SPS trade fair from November 12 to 14, we presented the versatile application possibilities of the testbed together with Fraunhofer IIS. The 5G dialog between Stefan Wimmer (BAYFU) and Ralph Dümmler (Fraunhofer IIS) was a highlight, in which we offered in-depth insights into the potential of 5G for industry both on site and online.
