Networked Paper Mill: 5G Standalone Network for Prinzhorn Group

Network Paper Mill: 5G Standalone Network for Prinzhorn Group.
State-of-the-art 5G technology for the digitalization of the paper industry: Deutsche Telekom has put a 5G campus network into operation for the paper manufacturer Hamburger Containerboard at its Spremberg (Lausitz) site. Hamburger Containerboard is a subsidiary of the Austrian Prinzhorn Group, one of the leading paper and packaging manufacturers in Europe. The aim of the local 5G network is to digitally network processes, data and people involved in paper production in future and make them even more efficient. To this end, the new 5G campus network now reliably supplies the entire factory premises in the Schwarze Pumpe industrial park along the Brandenburg-Saxony border with high-performance mobile communications via 5G standalone (5G SA). The Prinzhorn Group is being supported in the digitalization and networking of its production sites by the consulting company Bayerische Funknetz GmbH (BayFu) - from the initial concept to the tender and implementation.
“When it comes to paper processing, we focus on data, efficiency and our employees. We already produce around 840,000 tons of paper a year at our site in Spremberg. With 5G, we will now further optimize the information, logistics and production processes on site,” says Michael Krumay, Head of Digitalization Operations at Hamburger Containerboard. “We are pleased that we were able to rely on the many years of expertise of Deutsche Telekom and Bayrische Funknetz GmbH in the realization of the project. With the new 5G campus network, we will be able to make our processes and, above all, information flows even more efficient in future and further strengthen our competitiveness and the Spremberg site.”
“We were once again able to implement an important digitalization project with the Prinzhorn Group and, following the Austrian site of Hamburger Containerboard in Pitten, have now also started 5G operations at the German plant in Spremberg. The Prinzhorn Group has thus laid another foundation stone for innovative digital applications,” says Stefan Wimmer, Managing Director of Bayerische Funknetz GmbH. “We have been working with the Prinzhorn Group since 2020 to drive forward the digitalization of the paper mills. Together, we will consistently continue this success story.”
